#52ListsProject: Week 4

Yes, I'm blogging twice in one day.
Yes, this list is very late.
No, I do not care.

Now that we've got that out of the way. Let's get started.

This week's list is pretty fun, and because I listen to basically the same music for months at a time, fairly simple. I went very literal with this one, and am just spouting out the playlist I've been playing lately. My girl Alex took a very different approach.

Week 4: List the Soundtrack of Your Life Right Now.

  1. (This Ain't No) Drunk Dial- A Thousand Horses
  2. Cold in California- Cam
  3. Fix- Chris Lane
  4. Cake by the Ocean- DNCE
  5. Jumpman- Drake
  6. Confident- Demi Lovato
  7. Shut Up and Fish- Maddie & Tae
  8. Hollow- Tori Kelly
  9. Don't Threaten Me With a Good Time- Panic! at the Disco
  10. Sugar- Robin Schulz
  11. Roses- The Chainsmokers
  12. Untamed- Cam
  13. Title- Meghan Trainor
  14. Love Yourself- Justin Bieber
  15. Speakers- Sam Hunt
  16. Hands to Myself- Selena Gomez
  17. Think of You- Chris Young & Cassadee Pope)
  18. Snapback- Old Dominion
  19. Hide Away- Daya
  20. Country Ain't Never Been Pretty- Cam
  21. Parachute- Chris Stapleton
  22. New Americana- Halsey
  23. I Know What You Did Last Summer- Shawn Mendes
This isn't on the list, but never forget that this happened:

I'm one of those lucky humans that will get to experience Bieber Fever twice in their lifetime. And I ain't mad about it.

Happy Sunday!

When Things Come Together

Howdy, folks.

I've already defaulted on my goal for not sucking at blogging anymore. But I think I may finally have my head back above water again. This semester started off with a bang and I was clearly not prepared. But I'm trying over here. So that's better than nothing.

Last week I posted about how everything just didn't seem to be going my way and that I was struggling to find a purpose and reason for the struggle. Good news folks, things came together. As they always do. This week was a total whirlwind of emotions, and ups and downs, and huge opportunities.

Everyone kept telling me things would be okay and work themselves out, but it's sometimes hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel when the world seems to be closing in on you. I'm going to do my best to remember this week when I start getting down about life in the future.

I've always been a strong believer in the fact that "everything happens for a reason," and that's become abundantly clear lately. My final MBA semester is finally coming together and I've got some awesome trips planned in the next few months, all of which are going to provide me with some great experiences. And I also had two amazing opportunities presented to me this week for the summer (unfortunately I had to choose just one). But there's so much for me to gain from the opportunity I decided on. I even got a jump start on planning out my final year here.

So, yeah, it's been a great week for me. And I couldn't be more motivated to finish out the semester strong. Sometimes just busting your butt hard enough and long enough does get you places. Who knew? But if you need a little more motivation, look no further. I present you the motivational penguin:

So here's to another great week! Let's go get after it.

#52ListsProject: Week 3

This week's list couldn't have come at a better time. As yesterday's post depicted, I'm a little down in the dumps right now. I'm having a hard time finding motivation and an even harder time being genuinely happy. The last time I struggled this much was my sophomore year of college, and that was a very low time for me.

Lucky for me, todays' list is all about the happy moments in life. Which gave me some perspective. Things in a bubble always seem worse than things in perspective. Thinking about the big picture and the grand scheme of things is really what's getting me through right now.

Week 3: List the Happiest Moments of Your Life So Far.

  1. Getting accepted to UGA.
  2. Joining a CrossFit gym and learning to love fitness again.
  3. My internship interview at Augusta National.
  4. Getting accepted to Ohio University for grad school.
  5. Finally doing an unassisted pull-up.
  6. The 2007 Blackout game against Auburn.
  7. Raising $335,497.26 for UGA HEROs in 2014
  8. Graduating from UGA
  9. The entirety of my senior year spring break cruise.
  10. Finishing a half-marathon (or two).
  11. Cinco de Mayo of 2014.

I have minimal photo evidence of these things (unless Carla was there-- then there's definitely pictures), which I think is a testament to how I generally live my life. It's not about documenting everything I do, despite what Snapchat and the resulting FOMO may have me think. Just simply living in those moments is what makes them great. Although, I do wish somebody had video of me when I got accepted to UGA. That was quite a scene.

Reflecting on the happy things in life was definitely a good pick-me-up today. I'm glad I got to spend some time working on this post to give me a quick attitude boost.

Happy Humpday!

On Tuesdays, We Drink Wine

Disclaimer: Whining ahead.

No. That was not supposed to be a pun. This is real.

I'll save you from another Tuesday list and save that for tomorrow. Today, I just need a minute. So here I am. At my desk. With all the wine I can find in the apartment. And unfortunately, this isn't the first time I've been here.

As long-time readers may know, I've always hated Tuesdays. There's a whole theory behind that, but I won't go into that right now. This semester, Tuesdays are a whole new level of terrible and I'm having a more difficult time than ever coping with the struggle. Wine and catching up on The Bachelor is not how adults handle life... I don't think. Or maybe it is and I've just finally figured it all out.

The only problem with that solution is that adults don't have homework. And I'm an MBA student. And I have have more than enough of that. Evenings wasted with wine and the urge to sleep forever aren't going to get me too far into this semester. This is the best I've got right now:

As usual, I started off this semester trying to make it the best yet. Really get motivated. Do my things. Be happy. And thus far, all I've got is frustration. I'm really in need of some real positivity in my life. and I've been looking to everyone around me for that with no avail. I even made myself a motivating desktop background in an attempt to keep me focused on my goals.... Nada. But at least it's pretty.

So I guess that's what I'm here for. Advice. What do you do when you've hit a wall and can't get out of a rut? Look to others or help? Try and find a way to motivate yourself? Run away from it all?

I haven't been this bad off in quite some time and I'm not really even sure how to turn things around. I'd hate to see a year with such a positive start take a turn so quickly.

So, please, tell me something good.

#52ListsProject: Week 2

2016 is finally settling in now and (sadly) the thrill of the new year is starting to fade. School started back today and I feel like life is finally real again. So this week's list was a fun little break to remind me of some things that make life more fun sometimes. This list was also a lot harder than I expected it to be. But also turned out to be a lot funnier than I expected it to be.

Week 2: List Your Favorite Characters from Books, Movies, etc.

  1. Walter White Breaking Bad
  2. Chandler Bing Friends
  3. Katniss Everdeen The Hunger Games
  4. Dorothy Gale The Wizard of Oz
  5. Rory Gilmore Gilmore Girls
  6. Leigh Anne Tuohy The Blind Side
  7. Frank Underwood House of Cards
  8. Alexander Hitchens Hitch
  9. Jennifer Lawrence Anything Ever
  10. Coach Taylor Friday Night Lights
  11. Crazy Eyes Orange is the New Black
  12. Dr. House House
  13. Don Draper Mad Men
  14. Melissa McCarthy Anything Ever
  15. Andy Stitzer 40 Year Old Virgin
  16. Fat Amy Pitch Perfect

And now because I'm self conscious and feel like you may all be judging me and my decisions on this list, I'm going to give my best one-sentence excuse for why I chose each of these.

Walter White: I can appreciate a man who can single-handedly build and destroy an empire.
Chandler Bing: Because he's perfectly awkward and funny all at once.
Katniss Everdeen: She pretty much saved the world.
Dorothy Gale: It's my favorite movie so I had to.
Rory Gilmore: She's smart and pretty and Logan Huntzberger is important.
Leigh Anne Tuohy: The perfect Southern woman.
Frank Underwood: I have no proper explanation for the this one, TBH.
Alexander Hitchens: Let's be honest, I need my own personal "hitch."
Jennifer Lawrence: Everything she does is perfect and I love her long time.
Coach Taylor: Clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose.
Crazy Eyes: Easily the most sane human on that entire show.
Dr. House: He's a sexy old man that's always right.
Don Draper: Another sexy old man that's always right, and a total a**hole, totally my type.
Melissa McCarthy: Bridesmaids is her shining moment of glory but she's never not funny.
Andy Stitzer: I just love Steve Carrell in this movie.
Fat Amy: Because I think we all really prefer "horizontal running."

Now that I feel I've sufficiently explained myself, I think I'm done here.

Comment below with all the judgement.

#52ListsProject: Week 1

If you take a quick glance to your right, you'll see that my "About Me" section clearly states: List Maker. And this is not a lie. So when I'm strolling around Anthropologie and see a book titled The 52 Lists Project, ya girl stops and takes a look at this thing. And then falls in love with a book about making lists every week for a year.

These lists are not my typical To-Do list, or Grocery list, or even a Lifelong Goals list. Each week, there's a different purpose for these lists, from things you're grateful for to favorite quotes to your current playlist. All of these things sound like great lists to me.

Anddddd this also sounds like perfect blogging content. Because, I mean, who doesn't love a good list? Look at Buzzfeed... I'm fairly certain lists pay most the bills over there.

So, each week Alex and I (because I gifted her this book for Christmas) are going to be linking up to provide you with our weekly lists. And I'm really excited about this if I haven't made that abundantly clear yet. The book also has a hashtag (#52ListsProject) that you can follow on all social media if you want to get in the mix as well!

Week 1: List your goals and dreams for this year.

  1. Improve overall fitness level.
  2. Procrastinate less.
  3. Cultivate better relationships.
  4. Be a better blogger.
  5. Create and follow a budget.
  6. Become a better networker.
  7. Be more minimalistic.
  8. Try more new things.
  9. Find more self-confidence.
  10. Travel more.

I also think my other favorite thing about this book is the little motivators throughout. At the end of each list, there's a "Take Action" section that encourages you to act on a goal or try something different.

A lot of these items also obviously fall into the "New Years Resolution" category. I've got a post about mine coming this week as well. Because that's what bloggers do, I think. (I enjoy reading people's goals for the year, personally... So I guess I'm going to share mine too!)

So off I go to get some crap done so I can work towards no longer being the World's Greatest Procrastinator.

Happy list making!

Hello From the Other Side

Oh. Hello there.

Yes, I am still alive and well, despite what the blog world would have you believe. Somewhere between last February and now I apparently made the executive decision to stop blogging. It may or may not have had everything to do with he fact that I got so extremely busy that there was no space on my To-Do List for "Write a Freakin' Blog Already."

So, I quit.

But as you can see now, I'm back. And with a pretty sweet new design I might add. (Thanks Sarah!)

I think this is the part where I give you a quick update on everything you missed while I was away for 10 months, so here goes nothing:

When we last spoke, I was hopping on a plane, scared out of my mind, heading to Ohio for a grad school interview.

Now I attend said grad school (Ohio University) and have flown approximately 15 times since then. Oh, how things can change.

But between my move to Ohio and that first flight by myself, I traveled across the US in a Yukon XL with five other people for six weeks. That was something. We went to Vegas. Here's a photo.

In the middle of all that, my sweet grandmother, whom I'd written about multiple times here, passed away on Easter. We've all since been learning to deal with life without one of God's great angels.

After my six weeks bouncing all over the place and nearly freezing to death on a mountain top, I finally found my way back to Athens, GA a solid 15 pounds heavier than when I left (you will see no photo evidence that this actually happened.) I had 3 weeks there until I made the big move to Athens, OH, where I've been calling home since the beginning of June.

I finally cashed in on my graduation present from last December and went to Nashville for the CMA Festival with my mom and best friend. It was a quick reminder that Nashville is the greatest place on Earth, and that country music is life.

In September I tried to run another half marathon, then decided against it because my body hates me. But still made the trip to Chicago and had a total blast. It's officially up there on my list of favorite places and I can't wait to get back.

Otherwise, nothing terribly exciting has happened here, yet, but I have managed to lose those 15 pounds that found their way to my general midsection in the Spring. So I consider that a win.

I'm about to embark upon my first real winter, as everyone's been calling it. AKA it may snow and the people in Ohio are concerned I'm going to whine about it and freeze to death. We shall see.

So, as you can tell, 2015 was pretty boring. Absolutely nothing happened and things are all the same.

I've got a lot of fun stuff on the horizon for 2016 including an week-long internship in Vegas, a trip to Italy this spring, (finger crossed for) a dream internship this summer, and all sorts of potential fun in between.

I hope you're as happy as I am for my return, and that you're ready for quite the ride. Buckle up.

Happy New Year, folks!
