The Best Advice

I've been sucking at #Blogtober14 lately and posting really late at night. But I should have myself back on top of things again tomorrow. So yay for that!

Today's prompt is something that I've been asked before. And I've honestly never been able to come up with a good answer. But, after many years of dwelling over this, I think I've finally decided on The Best Advice I Ever Got.

And it's so simple. It's something my dad used to say all the time. It was his way of essentially dealing with everything. And it was annoying 99% of the time. He says it so much it's become a running joke within the family.

But it is honestly so, so true.

"It is what it is."

That's actually my dad's response to any and every thing that happens. Everything. And it only took me 22 years of hearing it to realize its significance.

Seriously. Think about it. When shat hits the fan and you are panicking, but there's nothing you can do about it. It is what it is. Now move on. What's the next step?

Instead of dwelling on things that are uncontrollable (or even sometimes controllable), you just gotta accept the situation for what it is and move on.

So, as it turns out, my dad's annoying passive way of dealing with things has actually taught me a lot about life and dealing with its ups and downs.

Thanks for that, dad.

Can't wait to get back in the swing of things again tomorrow afternoon!
