Heavy Heart

I don't think there are many things more startling to someone my age than hearing about someone my age losing their life. And that happened today.

Two people who meant a lot to a lot of people passed away in a car accident early this morning. I knew neither of these boys, but I know plenty of people whose lives were touched by them in one way or another.

Ian Davis was a UGA student and former UGA baseball player. Philip Lutzenkirchen was an amazing Tight End for Auburn. I've never met either of them, but hearing the stories of their short lives and seeing all the love that surrounds these men and their families breaks my heart. I'm happy that very few of these memories have been about athletics in any way, but more about the value of human life.

It's definitely one of those moments that takes you aback. We tend to go through life making plans and thinking of ourselves as somewhat invincible. When something like this happens, it's a very sad reminder of how finite life really is.

So I urge you to take a minute and thank the people around you for all they do and tell them what they mean to you. And take a good look around and thank God for all he has given you and the abilities he has given you to get you where you want to go in life.

If you want more information and stories about the life of these two great men, it won't take much more than a Google search. Every new Twitter and Facebook post breaks my heart.

My prayers go out to the families, friends, and fans of these men and may they rest in peace.

xoxo, jgp
