Music City

This past weekend I ventured out to Nashville with my best friend Callie to celebrate our 21st birthdays. And it was pretty much the time of my life.

The weather was perfect. The city was beautiful. And the music was amazing

If you are a fan of country music, you must get yourself to Nashville ASAP. Everyone in that city is so ridiculously talented, it will knock your socks off. We met some of the coolest people while we were there too. A few musicians, an air force commander, a motocross instructor... The list goes on and on.

And as expected, we saw a few very strange things along the way as well...

This was sealed into a bar top. Nashville is it's own little world. That is for certain.

But it is certainly a place a will be returning to... soon.

Have you ever been to Nashville? What was your favorite part?

Another Link-Up! {Fitness Friday}

My best friend Alex at High Heels and Treadmills is part of a new link-up: Fitness Friday. So out of support for her and her blog, I'm going to do her link-up today as well!

If you know me personally, you've heard me talk a lot about how much I absolutely love my gym in Athens, Omni Club. While I've been away from Athens these past few weeks, I've been going to the LA Fitness I used to use here in Kennesaw.

After a few weeks of attempting to get myself motivated here, it just hasn't worked. I just can't find motivation at this gym for some reason and it's slowly driving me crazy. I'm scared my mom is going to kill me if I talk about Omni one more time, but there is seriously something different about that gym that makes me want to work a little harder.

I'm going to credit the group fitness trainers there. That's what I've been missing the most here. I can take a cycle class, but that's about it. And the ones at LA just don't push me hard enough. I need some Power and Total Body Challenge back in my life.

Good news is, I'm heading back to Athens soon enough.

Have you ever experienced this before? Do you really think a specific gym can change your gym mindset?

Five on Friday Link-Up!

This is the first link-up I've decided to do since starting my blog, and I chose this one because it's wide open for me to choose the topics!

Considering I haven't blogged much in the past two weeks, I figured now would be a good time to try and get back in the swing of things.

Now time for the fun! Five things I'm loving this week!

My friends and family.
Not to be all corny and sentimental, but these past couple of weeks wouldn't have been as great as they were without my friends and family. Between being locked away in Hoover for three days, running home just in time for my birthday, and all of the birthday festivities, there is no way I would have enjoyed it as much without the people around me. So thanks y'all.

I spent Wednesday of this week with my mom at the BB&T Atlanta Open in Atlantic Station and it was my heaven on Earth. Every year I look forward to this tennis tournament and this year they stepped up their game and it was better than the last two years by miles

It also didn't hurt that this year I could legally enjoy a beer or two while I was there.

It's been about a month since the sun has shined on us here in Georgia, and I hope I'm not jinxing us when I say that I think it's back. (Fingers crossed, knock on wood.) I fully intend to spend the day in the sun, soaking it all up!

The Heat.

If you haven't seen this movie yet, go do it. Now. It's freakin' hilarious. But very vulgar. So those of you who don't like cuss words may want to avoid this one. But my mother and I got quite a kick out of this one. That's for certain.

After my celebration in Athens on Saturday night, it all started coming back to me. Why I love that city so much and why I never want to leave. And after being home for about 2 weeks now, I'm really missing the Classic City and can't wait to get back after Nashville this weekend.

If I have a chance while I'm in Nashville, I'll send a blog out into the world with updates on my life! (Or maybe I should plan ahead and schedule one to post... What a concept.)

What are you up to this weekend?

So Yeah... About This Week...

Clearly my goal of posting a blog during and after my week at SEC Media Days didn't go quite as I planned. I knew I was going to be crazy busy, but I had no idea I would be that busy for three days.

While in Hoover, I slept a total of 7 hours in 3 days. Then I hustled home and arrived in Kennesaw with an hour to spare before I turned 21.

And then even more chaos began.
Birthday lunch.
Birthday liquor store trip.
Birthday dinner.
Birthday trip to Athens.

And then I was home. And the only thing I wanted to do was sleep. Forever.

Pure exhaustion. Like I hadn't felt since that trip to NYC in January.

So I apologize for falling off the face of the planet for a week. But I should be back this week. Full of updates from this past week and the one ahead.

I've loved the insanity of these past few days, but I'm excited for a little bit of relaxation before my trip to Nashville this weekend!

If there is one thing I learned this past week, it's that I'm completely grateful for the life I have. I learned so much at SEC Media Days and I am beyond thrilled to have had the opportunity to represent my university there. And celebrating my birthday couldn't have been any better (well, Callie could have been healthy... but that's just life.) I have the world's greatest friends and family and I wouldn't have wanted to spend my birthday with anyone else.

Thanks to everyone who made this past week one of the greatest I've ever had!

Pre-Chaos Post

As some of you may know, I'm headed to Hoover, AL in the morning to cover one of the biggest media events in all of sports: SEC Media Days.

I'm utterly terrified that I'm not going to know what I'm doing and totally screw something up. So here's to hoping that's not the case. If you follow me on Twitter (@beacham_caley), you will get all kinds of fun updates on my three days in Hoover. So if you are interested to see how my trip goes, follow me!

My goal is to post tonight, at least once during the trip, and after the trip about the whole experience. Maybe my career isn't as terribly exciting to you as it is to me, but I figured it could be helpful to anyone wanting to go into sports media!

So far, my biggest struggle with this trip has been packing. I just want to bring everything because I'm terrified I'll forget something super important and end up without enough outfits or something. Can you tell I'm a paranoid over-packer?

It's a three day event and I've got 3 blazers, 3 dresses, plus an extra outfit. Because we all know that sometimes that one dress you had planned just isn't working that one day.

Then there's the whole "what-am-I-going-to-do-with-my-hair" dilemma! I'm going to be filming stuff on camera, so I can't look the same every day... duh. So I have to pack the blow dryer, two curling irons, and a straightener. It's necessary.

Oh, and the shoes. Is it acceptable to wear nice sandals? Or is that too casual? So two pairs of flats and two pairs of Jack Rogers. I would hate to have a shoe dilemma. That can make or break an outfit.

So, as you can tell. I kinda sorta really suck at packing. And that's only about 1/100th of what I've got packed. You have to have casual outfits for dinners and such, and what about when I'm editing in the hotel room? Norts and a tank are required as well. OH! And if I muster up the energy to workout, I gotta have tennis shoes and a workout top....

Too much.

I'm sorry. I'm rambling.

I'm just so excited and nervous and slightly confused still.

So I'm off to finish studying up for the first day of events! WAHOO!
Oh, and sleeping would be good. Considering I only slept for 3 hours last night. That's a whole different story though... Another day.

Wish me luck!

Currently Reading: On the Island

Well, this is kind of a lie. I finished this book earlier this week but I HAD to share.

On the Island by Tracey Garvis Graves is a summer must read.

I couldn't put it down. I was up until 3 A.M. two nights in a row because I had to finish it.

16 year-old T.J. is recovering from cancer that had him out of school for a year. His 30-year old tutor Anna is traveling with T.J. and his family to the Maldives for a summer vacation to help T.J. recover and catch up on his lost year. The plane goes down on the way there and they are stranded on an island by themselves.

The story revolves around their survival and the changes in their relationship during their time on the island. It sounds so basic, and it is, which makes the central focus the characters. You get attached to them and find yourself on the verge of tears of joy and sadness several times throughout. It's great. You must read it.

Then at the end of the book, Graves has a little blurb about the process of writing the book, etc. and she mentions that the book has been picked up by MGM for a potential movie. And let me just tell you, this movie would be awesome.

Perfect T.J.? Can I get a Tim Riggins please?

Taylor Kitsch… Gimme.

If that's not a reason enough to read the book (and see the potential movie)… I don't know what is.

What is your perfect summer getaway book?

101 in 1001

First off, if you don't follow Mackenzie at {Design Darling}, you need to. Her blog and her online store are awesome. And she's where I found the inspiration to start my very own 101 in 1001 list!

I started working on it last week and finally finished it earlier today. It takes a lot longer than you would think to come up with 101 things you can actually accomplish in 2.75 years.

I feel that people at my stage in life are more often asked about the "5 year plan" so I had to step back and think about things that are attainable considering 1.5 of those years will be in school still. But I also had to think big enough to not think I was settling. It was tough. But I am super excited to achieve all these goals. A lot of these are things from my bucket list too.  I'm back!

After spending a much needed holiday weekend away from technology and with civilization, I'm ready to get back to it again!

If you follow me on Twitter, you know how much I was panicking the few days leading up to the 4th about not having any plans. But, as usual, everything worked itself out and I ended up having an amazing weekend.

On the 4th I had a few friends over to my place (which is a rarity) and we just hung out while it poured down rain outside.

And yes, the festive nails were completely necessary. I painted them that morning.

Then we blew things up. It was awesome.

The boys brought over some serious fireworks and we had all sorts of fun.

Then Saturday afternoon we left for a weekend on the lake, which was exactly what I needed. I've been cooped up in Athens with nothing to do so it was the perfect getaway.

It's weekends like this one that make me thankful for the friends the surround me. I could not ask for better people.

Happy 4th, y'all.

Currently Swooning: 4th of July #Tuckernucking

It's the 4th of July! So it's time to bust out your favorite festive outfits and sparklers! I've got 3 outfits ready for the day since I honestly don't know what it will entail (read: pouring down rain.)

One of my favorite places to "shop" online is Tuckernuck. They have the perfect outfit or dress for any occasion. And the 4th of July is no exception. If I could have it my way, all of these would be in my closet and worn on the regs. Someday. Someday, maybe.

From top to bottom, left to right:

Whether you are spending a day at the pool, a day barbecuing with friends, or enjoying a fireworks show, Tuckernuck has a perfect option for you.

The Ropewalk Tunic has details that are to die for and the Amanda Uprichard dress is perfect for a long day of festivities complete with a fireworks show.

In general, the red and navy color combination always does the trick for me. So it's the perfect holiday!

I hope you all enjoy your 4th of July celebrating this great country we call home.

How are you spending this holiday weekend?

Currently Swooning: Tory Burch

Today is the last day of the Tory Burch Summer Sale. And I'm wishing my bank account could handle it.

While everything TB does is pretty freakin' perfect, I would kill for a pair of her riding boots. Unfortunately, playing close to $500 for a pair of boots is not really in my price range right now. But a girl can dream right?

These Kiernan Riding Boots are perfect for fall and winter. And I'm completely in love.

For those of you looking for new boots, and considering the splurge for these, do it today! With code "SUMMER" these babies are almost $100 off! That code will get you up to 30% off the entire site (I believe.)

So don't miss your chance to stock up on the Tory Burch summer/fall collections on sale while you can!

What are you currently loving from Tory?

Concert Season

As if summer wasn't already the greatest of all the seasons, in the South it's also concert season.

There are few things I love more than live music. And live country music on a southern summer night? PERFECTION.

So far this season I've seen:

Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan, Jake Owen & Thomas Rhett

Brantley Gilbert & Tim McGraw

Chris Young & Brad Paisley
(I know, I'm cute...)

And as I mentioned in my blog yesterday, in July I'm seeing Luke Bryan & Florida Georgia Line! Followed by a trip two weeks later to Nashville-- country music heaven.

This has been a great summer for country music in Georgia, and I couldn't be happier.

Who have you seen this concert season? Who would you like to see?

xoxo, jgp

Hello, July!

Well hello there, my long lost friend. You snuck up on me.

July is here, which in college land means summer is slowly but surely slipping away. But July is always my favorite month of summer.

What's not to like about July?
Celebrating this wonderful nation. Wimbledon's second week. Luke Bryan concert. SEC Media Days. My 21st birthday. The BB&T Atlanta Open. Nashville.

Well, that's my July at least. But it's always a fun month and I'm so excited for everything it has in store for me.

I've been M.I.A. for a few days because I was embracing time with my best friend while we were in the same city for once. I also spent my Friday night celebrating the career of my favorite baseball player of all time, Chipper Jones. The Atlanta Braves retired his number this weekend and I may have shed a tear or two.

So I'd say that June gave me a nice little send off and I'm super pumped for this final month of summer.

What do you have planned for the month?
