If you didn't know, award shows are quite possibly my favorite thing on the planet. And tonight was the CMT Awards (Eep!). I'm not really sure I could put into words my absolutely unhealthy obsession with country music award shows. Which is why that is a path I'm looking at taking in like as well.
Sports broadcasting or producing award shows.
Strange set of options, I know.
But I love them both, and I'm completely torn on my life path. So in the meantime, I'm just going to share my thoughts on tonight's show!
Biggest surprise of the night:
Little Big Town singing a Fleetwood Mac song to perfection and Keith Urban jumping in with a little bit of guitar. It was beautiful.
I almost cried when:
Carried Underwood brought out the show choir for her performance of See You Again in honor of the Oklahoma tornado victims.
Most on-point award:
Florida Georgia Line winning Duo Video of the Year. They are absolutely amazing. I'm seeing them this summer and I couldn't be more excited.
WTF? award of the night:
Miranda Lambert winning Female Video of the Year for Mama's Broken Heart. There were definitely better options. I absolutely LOVE Miranda Lambert, but that's not her best work.
That awkward moment when:
Blake Shelton doesn't know he won an award that his wife just presented...
Oh, and that moment when Carrie Underwood won Video of the Year for Blown Away... A song about a tornado in Oklahoma killing her father. This was immediately after her performance for Oklahoma.
Favorite part of the night:
Luke Bryan's performance at The Stage (a bar in Nashville.) I love when award shows do that. It's more intimate and a change of scenery never hurt. Plus, it was Luke Bryan.
Favorite performance of the night:
HOW DO I PICK JUST ONE?!
I'm probably going to have to go with Darius Rucker and Lady A doing Wagon Wheel. That is probably one of my favorite songs of all time. And Darius Rucker is perfection.
Least favorite part of the night:
Jason Aldean hosting. As much as I love the man, he doesn't have a personality at all.
Another thing I will continue to hate is every time they show Taylor Swift dancing and singing in the audience. She just looks awkward. Stop it.
Least favorite performance of the night:
No question on this one... Taylor Swift. Give it up. You aren't country. Get off the stage and stop flailing around like a fool. That is all.
A close second was definitely Kasey Musgraves singing Blowing Smoke. It was just plain boring.
What I would have changed/what I loved:
I absolutely loved opening with Jason Aldean and Lenny Kravitz. And I loved closing with Florida Georgia Line and Nelly. Collaborations like that are really changing country music, so it's important to highlight that.
I wish Jason Aldean hadn't hosted. It was just painful to watch.
There were a ton of performances, and most of them were great. Some of the ones on the smaller stage were very lackluster. If your going to pick performances, make them worthwhile.
Also, get rid of Dog the Bounty Hunter... Dear God.
But overall, it was a very entertaining show and well planned! Wish I had been there!
