2013 Resolutions

Last year when I set all my New Years resolutions, I had about 400. Then I narrowed it down, but still only accomplished about half of them. This year, I'm going to take a note from one of my favorite bloggers, College Prep, and set goals for things to focus on each month. This way, I can fully focus on certain things for a solid 30 days while obviously working on other parts of my life all together. With some thought, and planning around my personal schedule- here is what I've come up with:

January [Organization]
For me, a fresh start at the beginning of the year is VITAL to me keeping myself together for the semester, and the whole year for that matter. So this month I'm going to clean some stuff out, and organize my apartment at school and my life in general. This for me also includes organizing my time. It is very important that I start off my semester back at school with an idea of what "free" time I have so I can get things and done actually have some fun!

February [Fitness]
As you will learn, fitness and being in shape are super important to me. I hate when I don't have time to workout and eat right, so this month I'm going to really focus on making time for that in my schedule. This also gets rolling from January when I organize my time and make sure I have time to keep myself in shape. February is also the month before my spring break, so yeah. Enough said.

March [Friendships]
I've found that around this time in my semester, I lose contact with friends that I wanted to see more often. In January when I get back to Athens, I'm always catching up with friends because I tend to have more free time then. By midterms, I completely lose touch with my friends and find myself going crazy, stressing with my roommate about life, instead of getting out of the apartment and spending time with friends. So March will be my time to make sure that I keep these friendships a priority instead of putting them on the back burner like usual.

April [Studying]
I'll be completely honest- I don't study. Like, at all really. I'm not good at it, and I'm somewhat of a natural learner, so normally I can hear something once or twice and get it and move on. My primary major is also a skill-based major, so studying isn't something I really have to do much. But April means finals are coming, and this upcoming year I have a lot of business-focused classes, which aren't my strength. So I'm going to take the time in April to make sure I am focused and ready for my finals this year and find out the best way that I learn now.

May [Style]
I'll be the first to admit that I have a serious shopping problem. I online shop like you wouldn't believe. I'm considering being a personal shopper if I fail at life. It would be perfect. But despite all my shopping, I never have really felt like I have a real "style" per se. I own a ton of clothing, but none of it really works together or seems to have a lot of continuity. So in May I'm going to attempt to figure out what really works for me. I'm also really bad about dressing like a total slob to class, so that's another goal of this month. Getting comfortable wearing nicer clothes every day in important, since I will probably be in Los Angeles for an internship all summer long! (Eek!)

June [Work]
This is all about my internship. I will hopefully be in LA this summer, from June to August, so I will have to attempt to go from a southern girl to a hard working Californian. I don't know what my internship will be or what I'll be doing, but the month of June will be all about work and making sure I make a great impression.

July [Exploration]
This is also directly correlated with my being across the country for the first time ever. Given that I'm in LA, I want to be able to travel and see things I've never seen before. I've never left the southeast, and after my trip to New York later this month, I will have left it for the first time ever. So this July, I'm going to explore. I'm going to do something that makes me uncomfortable and visit places I've always wanted to see. I'll also be turning 21 this month, so that opens all kinds of new doors!

August [Reading]
In 2012, one of my resolutions was to read more often. Which is very ambiguous, but I definitely improved my reading habits this past year. I make it a priority every night to read at least one chapter of a book before bed. If I have a test the next day, I still do. If it's 4AM and I just finished a paper, I still do it. So this August I'm going to focus on making even more time in my schedule to read because I really enjoy it, but finding the time is difficult.

September [Writing]
As a broadcast major, the majority of my writing sounds like a strange robot. I'm going to REALLY focus on improving my broadcast writing during this time because I'll be entering my semester being on live TV (Uh, scary.) So it's very important for me to be focused on that writing to help me down the line in life. But I will also work on blogging more often and writing in new ways since I haven't done much writing outside of journalism in over 3 years. Woah.

October [Skills]
This is also related to my major. Come October, I need be make sure my camera skills and editing skills, and writing skills, and all kinds of broadcast skills are being attended to. I'm always trying to be the best at what I do, and October is what will make or break me, so it's vital I focus on what improvements I need.

November [Love]
To be perfectly honest, I don't have time for love in the boyfriend sense. I am so involved in so many different things that I absolutely love, that making time for dating is really not a priority. So for once in my life, I'm going to focus on actually making myself available, because Lord knows I'll still be single next Noovember. (Read: forever alone.)

December [Personal Time]
As I've mentioned, while school is in session, I don't have much time for anything. That includes time for me to just sit and do things I enjoy doing that I don't normally have time for like crafting. So next December, after finals of course, I fully intend on making lots of time for ME. I'm sure I'll need it by then.

I'll keep going back to this throughout the year to see what I've really been doing to make these improvements. I'm so excited about the year ahead!
Happy 2013 and good luck with all your New Years Resolutions!

xoxo, jgp
